Lupita Nyong’o discussed losing Chadwick Boseman and explained how she thinks he’d want Marvel to carry on with Black Panther 2.
After the tragic death of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman last year, fans have long-debated as to how Marvel Studios should proceed with the planned sequel from director Ryan Coogler. Some would like to see the role of T’Challa recast, while others think the film should address Boseman’s death in some way. During a recent interview on The Ellen Show, Nakia actress Lupita Nyong’o explained that she thinks Boseman would want the cast and crew to continue with Black Panther 2.
Lupita Nyong’o explained that although Chadwick Boseman’s leadership will be missed, she knows that he’d want them to carry on with Black Panther 2. The star also revealed that Ryan Coogler’s plan for the upcoming sequel will honor his legacy so she feels good about returning to the franchise when production starts later this year. Take a look below.
“It’s still so hard for me to come to terms with his passing… his leadership. He led the movie with such compassion and just presence. When Chadwick came on set, he was present and he brought his entire being to that movie. And he was just so humble as well. That leadership will be missed. I do know for certain he would want us to do this, and I feel what Ryan Coogler has planned very much honors him and his legacy. So I feel good about going back.”
What do you make of Lupita Nyong’o’s thoughts on the sequel? Are you excited to see what Ryan Coogler comes up with for Black Panther 2? How do you think the sequel should deal with the loss of Chadwick Boseman?
Here is the synopsis for the first film:
After the death of his father, the king of Wakanda, young T’Challa returns home to the isolated high-tech African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. Faced with treachery and danger, he must release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.
