‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’ Visits Classic X-Men Location

Falcon Winter Soldier X-MenThe latest episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier visits a classic X-Men location and drops a number of mutant Easter eggs.

We all knew that Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes would visit Madripoor eventually in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and it was the perfect opportunity for Marvel Studios to throw in some brilliant X-Men Easter eggs for longtime fans of the mutants. The south-east Asian city featured prominently in Chris Claremont’s X-Men stories in the 1980s, first arriving in New Mutants #32 before being frequently visited in 1988’s Wolverine solo series. Logan’s undercover identity, Patch, even co-owned a drinking spot there called the Princess Bar – which Sam and Bucky walk past in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Baron Zemo takes Sam and Bucky to Madripoor to get information on the mysterious Power Broker and the new super soldier serum, tracking down an old connection called Selby at a bar named the Brass Monkey Saloon. Selby herself is a reference to a mutant in the comics who could communicate with computers in a unique way, breaking through firewalls and passwords without breaking a sweat. With all these X-Men references, it’s hard not to wonder whether Kevin Feige is gearing up to introduce mutants sooner rather than later – although discussions about the reboot are still ongoing according to the Marvel Studios chief.
