Safety writer Randy McKinnon is on board to pen the script for the live-action Static Shock film produced by Michael B Jordan.
Back at DC FanDome last August, it was announced that Warner Bros. was finally developing a live-action Static Shock film. Months later, Black Panther and Fantastic Four star Michael B Jordan joined the project as a producer, and now Randy McKinnon is set to write the DC film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Randy McKinnon is best known for his work on Disney Plus’ Safety, which follows a college football player who also faced the challenge of raising his little brother while attending Clemson University. Static Shock’s origins come from the pages of DC’s Milestone Comics and grew in popularity thanks to the animated series, which aired in the early 2000s. Reports have also suggested the planned live-action film could become part of DC’s slate for HBO Max.
Now that we have a writer for Static Shock, who is your top choice to direct the project? Let us know in the comments section below!
Here is the synopsis for the animated series:
Based on characters from the DC Comics series, superhero Virgil Hawkins and his classmates confront real problems and issues faced by today’s teens: peer pressure, gangs and growing up in an ethnically diverse, urban neighborhood. But helping people and making a positive impact in his community gives a real charge to this newfound superhero in the animated adventures of Static Shock.
The animated Static Shock series featured the voicing talents of Phil LaMarr, Jason Marsden, Kevin Michael Richardson, Michele Morgan, and Crystal Scales.
