Justice League director Zack Snyder reacts to Warner Bros. editing out Henry Cavill’s Superman mustache in the theatrical cut.
Aside fro the overall messiness of the Justice League theatrical cut, one of the biggest criticisms that came from the movie was the horrifying CGI removal of Henry Cavill’s mustache – which the star couldn’t shave for the reshoots because of his Mission: Impossible – Fallout commitments. But when speaking to MTV News about his recently released cut, Zack Snyder revealed his reaction to that version of Superman.
The director explained that he was originally disappointed that this version of Superman would’ve been defined by the poor editing choice instead of Henry Cavill’s performance, but the black suit might outshine that now thankfully. Zack Snyder’s comments also seem to imply that audiences won’t see Cavill’s Superman again by saying it would have been the last view of him. So the star may not return for the new reboot from J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates. Take a look at Snyder discussing the mustache problem in the theatrical cut below.
“It was funny because part of me was happy we were able to have that not be the total legacy of the hard work that [Cavill] had done over the last 10 years. It’s sad to think that that would have been the last view that people had of Superman, was just that, whatever that is.”
What did you think to the film? Are you glad Zack Snyder got to deliver his vision of Henry Cavill’s Superman in the black suit? Sound-off in the comments below!
Here is the official synopsis for the Snyder Cut:
“In ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE, determined to ensure Superman’s (Henry Cavill) ultimate sacrifice was not in vain, Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) aligns forces with Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) with plans to recruit a team of metahumans to protect the world from an approaching threat of catastrophic proportions. The task proves more difficult than Bruce imagined, as each of the recruits must face the demons of their own pasts to transcend that which has held them back, allowing them to come together, finally forming an unprecedented league of heroes. Now united, Batman (Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), Cyborg (Ray Fisher) and The Flash (Ezra Miller) may be too late to save the planet from Steppenwolf, DeSaad and Darkseid and their dreadful intentions.”
Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
