The Falcon and The Winter Soldier star Sebastian Stan revealed how he discovered that Bucky barnes wouldn’t be the new Captain America.
With The Falcon and The Winter Soldier debuting on Disney Plus in just a few days time, the stars of the show recently spoke to Empire Magazine about the upcoming series and how it deals with the after-effects of Avengers: Endgame. One of the biggest revelations coming out of the film was the Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson was handed the mantle of Captain America by Steve Rogers himself, which shocked some fans who expected to see Bucky Barnes take over the role after several teases in previous films. Sebastian Stan revealed (while pretending to be offended) that he found out about the Captain America transition on the day of filming the scene.
“I found out the day that we were shooting, when someone handed me the scene on the spot in my costume,”
However, when asked about Bucky Barnes not taking on the Captain America mantle, Sebastian Stan explained that given the former-assassin’s journey throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it wouldn’t make sense for him to be a symbol of hope. Marvel Studios did consider passing the baton over to Bucky at one point though according to Endgame writer Christopher Markus. However, he’s been through so much forced trauma that he’s “not in a place for that, mentally” as Stan puts it. Take a look below.
“It never really made sense to me – he just was not in a place for that, mentally. I’m not sure where the character would have gone even if that had happened.”
