After a turbulent time getting DC Universe off the ground and subsequently shifting all of the live-action shows over to both The CW and HBO Max, it seems like Warner Bros. finally has a solid plan moving forward for its future live-action properties away from the big screen. But as revealed in the recent AT&T investor day, the studio is working on solo projects for both Zatanna and Batgirl for HBO Max.

With Zatanna being a magical hero in the DC universe, it’s possible that this project could tie or spin-off into the Justice League Dark series being worked on by JJ Abrams for the platform. Meanwhile, a Batgirl movie has been in development for quite some time – with earlier reports suggesting Barbara Gordon’s solo adventure could debut straight to HBO Max rather than a cinematic release. Take a look at the Warner Bros. slate of DC projects including Zatanna and Batgirl below.

Details regarding the Justice League Dark series are being kept under lock and key. J.J. Abrams and Bad Robot’s Head of Television Ben Stephenson are on board as executive producers, with the company’s Executive Vice President of Television, Rachel Rusch Rich, serving as an executive producer.

Warner Bros. has been trying to get a Justice League Dark movie off the ground for quite some time now. Guillermo del Toro and Doug Liman were previously attached to the project, but they both dropped out a few years ago. Additionally, the JLD character Swamp Thing had his own DC Universe series that was axed in June 2019 after just one season.

The Justice League Dark team was created by comic book writer Peter Milligan and artist Mikel Janín. The team made its debut in September 2011, consisting of characters like John Constantine, Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Shade, Zatanna and the Changing Man.
