I’m thrilled to announce that Kill It With Fire is now available on Xbox One! It’s full of insidious spiders, an increasingly ridiculous arsenal, and incredibly intricate (yet flammable) environments. It’s also full of objectives, puzzles, challenges, secrets, two different upgrade systems, a secret ending (oops, spoilers), and achievements!
When you start your spider-hunting crusade in Kill It With Fire, you won’t have much. Only your wits and a trusty clipboard, an essential tool that’s great for squishing spiders, that displays a list of your current objectives. As you unlock new areas (by killing spiders, of course) you’ll uncover additional objectives to complete. These are optional, however there are some fantastic reasons to complete them.
First, they’re a kind of a “self-guided tutorial” for introducing various concepts and systems to rookie exterminators. Next, you’ll occasionally run into a locked door or container that requires a certain number of completed objectives to open — these tend to have the best goodies hidden inside. Finally, each completed objective is worth one upgrade point — if you complete every objective in a mission, you’ll unlock its Arachno Gauntlet (more on those later).
Upgrade points you say? That’s right, hidden throughout the game are tons of upgrades. Once you discover one (some are well hidden), you’ll need enough upgrade points to equip it. There are some wild upgrades in the game, from the usual suspects like increased move speed and inventory size, to the outright broken like access to unlimited ammo and other shenanigans.
And that’s just the first upgrade system. The other one is for your Spider Tracker. This little piece of hi-tech gadgetry is your best friend when it comes to finding spiders. And there are tracker upgrades hidden throughout the game to make it even more powerful. To equip them, however, you’ll need batteries, which are also hidden all over the place. But you know what else is hidden all over the place? You guessed it: Spiders.
In the first mission, you’ll face your garden variety arachnid (literally). As the game continues, you’ll battle against different types of spiders, each with a new trick up their sleeves — and spiders have a lot of sleeves. Some like to jump at your face. Others shoot webs at your face. Then there are those that like to explode… at your face. Each mission brings some fresh, new nightmare.
For those who wish to truly test their mettle against spider-kind, there’s only one option: The Arachno-Gauntlet. These are special, timed objectives for only the most extreme exterminators. Each mission has its own unique gauntlet — if you complete them all, you’ll unlock some extra surprises at the end of the game.
Well, prospective spider hunters, that pretty much wraps it up! If you think you have what it takes to become an exterminator, pick up a copy of Kill It With Fire today! Got questions, or just want to talk? Come say hello on the official Kill It With Fire Discord.
