The first full trailer for Mortal Kombat doesn’t disappoint with its brutal and bloody fight scenes.
After a brief snippet of footage in the HBO Max promo gave fans a taste for the Mortal Kombat movie, the first full trailer reveals the brutal madness of the games in all its glory. Fans of the original games will be pleased to see faithful adaptations of characters like Sub-Zero, Jax Briggs and Raiden show up in the first footage. But the trailer also gives us a first look at Lewis Tan‘s role in the film as a washed up MMA fighter named Cole.
The Mortal Kombat trailer highlights Hiroyuki Sanada’s Scorpion and his battle with Joe Taslim’s Sub-Zero. Other characters like Goro and Mileena also make an appearance, hinting that the HBO Max movie might be the perfect adaptation of the legendary fighting franchise. Our favorite moment? Sub-Zero freezing Jax’s arms till they shatter – director Simon McQoid isn’t messing around. Take a look below.

Mortal Kombat was first adapted into a feature film directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, the filmmaker behind the Resident Evil series with Milla Jovovich. The film earned a worldwide total of $122 million and is widely regarded as one of the better adaptations of a video game.
Directed by Simon McQuoid from a script written by Greg Russo, Mortal Kombat stars Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Mehcad Brooks as Jackson “Jax” Briggs, Josh Lawson as Kano, Chin Han as Shang Tsung, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Max Huang as Kung Lao, Sisi Stringer as Mileena and Elissa Cadwell as Nitara. Lewis Tan is also on board in an undisclosed role.
