Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard recently described the upcoming fourth season of the hit Netflix series as the darkest yet.
Filming on Stranger Things 4 has been underway since September after production came to a halt because of COVID-19. Besides David Harbour returning as Hopper, not much else is known about the upcoming season. Finn Wolfhard recently spoke with CBC Listen and shared some details on what fans can expect with season four.
Based on Finn Wolfhard’s comments, it sounds like we can expect the Stranger Things series to get darker as the young protagonists grow up in the vein of Harry Potter:
“Every season it gets darker. Really, I will say with Season 3 I was like, this is the darkest season that there’ll ever be, like the exploding rats and everything. But really, Season 4 so far, it’s the darkest season there’s ever been. Every year, it gets amped up. Every year it gets funnier and darker and sadder, and everything. Every year, they amp it up.”

Here is the official synopsis for the third season of Stranger Things:
“It’s 1985 in Hawkins, Indiana, and summer’s heating up. School’s out, there’s a brand new mall in town, and the Hawkins crew are on the cusp of adulthood. Romance blossoms and complicates the group’s dynamic, and they’ll have to figure out how to grow up without growing apart. Meanwhile, danger looms. When the town’s threatened by enemies old and new, Eleven and her friends are reminded that evil never ends; it evolves. Now they’ll have to band together to survive, and remember that friendship is always stronger than fear.”
