HBO Max has passed on the The CWverse’s Green Arrow and the Canaries after the final season of Arrow set the stage for the spin-off.
Although Arrow originally intended to live on through Mia Queen’s adventures in Green Arrow and the Canaries, the network decided to pass on the show – but many fans still had hope it could find life elsewhere. Unfortunately, HBO Max has also decided not to move forward with the series, which would’ve starred Katherine McNamera, Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy.
TVLine Editor-in-Chief Matt Webb Mitovich recently revealed that the option of airing Green Arrow and the Canaries on HBO Max had already been thoroughly explored. But due to a recent leadership change, the news that series hasn’t been picked up took longer than usual. So for the moment, Mia Queen won’t get her own series. However, there’s nothing stopping Marc Guggenheim from using her in other shows, she could easily pop up in something like Legends of Tomorrow, or even The Flash. Take a look at what Mitovich had to say about HBO Max passing on Green Arrow and the Canaries below.
“The HBO Max option was already thoroughly explored, I hear, especially as leadership shifted over there — and that is why the final ‘cancellation’ decision took as long as it did. No dice.”
Do you think HBO Max is missing out by passing up on the series? Do you still want to see Green Arrow and the Canaries in the future? Should they show up in shows like Legends of Tomorrow?
You can read the official synopsis for the Green Arrow and the Canaries backdoor pilot below:
“It’s the year 2040 in Star City and Mia Queen (McNamara) has everything she could have ever wanted. However, when Laurel (Cassidy) and Dinah (Harkavy) suddenly show up in her life again, things take a shocking turn and her perfect world is upended. Laurel and Dinah are tracking a kidnapping victim with direct ties to Mia and they need her help. Knowing it will change everything, Mia can’t help but be a hero and she, Laurel and Dinah suit up once again to save the city.”
