Warner Bros. executives said the Zack Snyder cut of Justice League won’t lead into an ongoing universe on HBO Max.
Although the excitement around the release of Zack Snyder cut of Justice League is at an all-time high thanks to the director’s recent comments about what he had planned for the full story (like a surprising reveal about Jared Leto’s Joker), Warner Bros. executives aren’t planning on exploring that world any further. The Snyder Cut of the film arrives on HBO Max in March, and will obviously feature original footage that fans have only heard about, alongside the new scenes the director recently shot.
An in-depth article from The New York Times explored the state of superhero movies, theatrical releases during the pandemic and what Warner Bros. has planned for the future. And although Zack Snyder himself says he’s pleased the studio is leaning into the multiverse, the piece mentions that executives aren’t planning to continue his story after the Justice League cut debuts on HBO Max. It reportedly leads nowhere. Take a look at the quote below.
“At least for now, Mr. Snyder is not part of the new DC Films blueprint, with studio executives describing his HBO Max project as a storytelling cul-de-sac — a street that leads nowhere.”
