Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker makes a thrilling return in season two finale of the Star Wars series The Mandalorian.

As The Mandalorian season two comes to an end, Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni and director Peyton Reed pulled out all the stops to keep fans on their toes as Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin took the fight to the Imperials to save Grogu/Baby Yoda from Moff Gideon. And although there were some excellent surprises along the way (like the return of Bo-Katan!) the finale saw the arrival of a truly iconic Star Wars hero.
With the formidable Deathtroopers overwhelming the combined forces of Djarin, Bo-Katan, Fennec Shand, Cara Dune and Sasha Banks’ Koska Reeves – a singular X-Wing arrives to save the day. Fans wondered which Star Wars legend would arrive to help Grogu after he sent out a message in the force during a previous episode – and one Jedi answered the call… Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker. In a scene almost mirroring his father’s intimidating fight in Rogue One, Luke quickly dispatches all the combat droids to save the group on the Imperial cruiser.
The Mandalorian uses de-aging technology on Mark Hamill to bring a younger Luke Skywalker to the screen. He takes Grogu with him following an emotional farewell with Din Djarin, and presumably the adorable green force-user will go with Luke to start his training. The hero is dressed in a similar black outfit to the one seen in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and he was even accompanied by R2-D2. The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito and Carl Weathers, with Rosario Dawson joining the series as Ahsoka Tano. The Star Wars project is being directed by series creator Jon Favreau, executive producer Dave Filoni and fellow season one directors Rick Famuyiwa and Bryce Dallas Howard. Ant-Man director Peyton Reed will also helm at least one episode as will star Carl Weathers and Sin City helmer Robert Rodriguez.
