Broadband and TV suppliers will be asked to quit charging”rental” charges for gear that clients possess themselves, because of a new US law that happens on Sunday.
The bogus charges were outlawed from the Television Viewer Protection Act (TVPA), that was accepted by Congress and signed by President Trump at December 2019. The legislation was initially scheduled to have effect on June 20, but Congress gave the Federal Communications Commission leeway to postpone authorities by six months when the FCC”finds that fantastic cause exists for this extra expansion.”
The FCC at April awarded the right-wing delay into ISPs, asserting that providers had additional time to honor due to the coronavirus pandemic. That choice stalled implementation of these new requirements before December 20, 2020.
