James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad spin-off series Peacemaker has added four new cast members to star opposite John Cena.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Lochlyn Munro, Chukwudi Iwuji, Annie Chang and Christopher Heyerdahl have joined John Cena in the cast of HBO Max’s Peacemaker, a DC Comics drama coming from The Suicide Squad director James Gunn. Peacemaker is looking to begin production in January 2021, with filming taking place in Vancouver under the helm of Gunn.
Plot details for Peacemaker are being kept under lock and key, but THR mentions that Lochlyn Munro and Annie Chang are playing detectives while Christopher Heyerdahl is on board as a captain. Meanwhile, Chukwudi Iwuji is playing a character named Clemson Murn.
The four new additions to the cast of Peacemaker join a call sheet that also includes Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland and Chris Conrad. The series is using the working title “The Scriptures.”
The first Suicide Squad followed a team of supervillains who were recruited by the government for a dangerous black ops mission in exchange for reduced sentences. The ensemble cast included Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and Jared Leto as The Joker. However, James Gunn is expected to deliver on a fresh take on the team in his upcoming movie.
Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Jai Courtney, Joaquín Cosío, Nathan Fillion, Joel Kinnaman, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, and Michael Rooker.
The Suicide Squad is currently scheduled to hit theaters on August 6, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news regarding James Gunn’s Peacemaker, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
