Former Fantastic Beasts star Johnny Depp wanted Warner Bros. to remove Amber Heard from her role as Mera in James Wan’s Aquaman.
A detailed new piece from The Hollywood Reporter revealed an insight into the ongoing drama between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard in the aftermath of the recent libel case in the United Kingdom. The former Fantastic Beasts star lost the case against The Sun and News Group Newspapers after they had branded him a “wife-beater” in an article discussing the Harry Potter spin-off and Depp’s alleged abuse against his ex-wife. The new report briefly detailed how Depp wanted Heard pulled from playing Mera in Aquaman opposite Jason Momoa.
Aside from outlining a series of violent texts from Johnny Depp, the report revealed a message he sent to his sister Christi Dembrowski. In the aftermath of his divorce from Amber Heard in 2016, the star had seemingly tried to ruin her ongoing career using Dembrowski’s connections as Warner Bros. According to THR, the message simply read “I want her replaced on the WB film.” In recent news, Amber Heard confirmed she’ll reprise her role as Mera in Aquaman 2, as fans continue to push the studio to pull the actress from the upcoming sequel.
What do you make of Johnny Depp’s comments? Should Warner Bros. ask Amber Heard to step down from Aquaman 2? Sound-off in the comments below.
