If there was one word that dominated the fashion landscape in 2020 it would have to be loungewear. The numbers don’t lie: According to Lyst’s ‘Year in Fashion’ report, searches for sweatpants went up 104% month-on-month throughout April, and cosy buys such as Nike joggers (a 213% spike year-on-year), Ugg slippers (201,000 average monthly searches) and Frankie Shop’s tank top dominated the ‘World’s Most Wanted’ top 10. Meanwhile, searches for co-ords increased 120% year-on-year. Phew, that’s a whole lotta loungewear.
From cashmere twinsets to luxe joggers, it’s fair to say that the selection on offer has overwhelmingly come in muted shades of grey, beige and black, and while I cannot deny the minimalist sophistication of a neutral colour palette, I am currently experiencing a bit of beige fatigue. After all, as the days darken and the temperatures plummet, surely we’re all in need of more rather than less colour in our wardrobes?
Cue a deep-dive into the best feel-good loungewear outfits around right now. I kept my eyes peeled for paintbox brights, fun trims and unusual prints, and thankfully there was more than enough to sink my teeth into.
