The latest crowd-pleasing episode of The Mandalorian explored Baby Yoda’s origin and revealed his real name.
After months of speculation and frenzied fan-theories, The Mandalorian has finally begun cracking the secrets behind Baby Yoda – not that we should call him that anymore. After introducing an incredible live-action version of Ahsoka Tano (played by Rosario Dawson) the episode revealed what the adorable green force-user is really called and where he’s been before. Star Wars fans? Meet Grogu.
The episode stunningly built out the universe in new ways, rightfully honoring the shows Ahsoka previously appeared in while also forging a fresh path. When Din Djarin introduces Baby Yoda to the gray Jedi, she manages to commune with him through the force, discovering that his real name is Grogu. Ahsoka recounts his story, explaining that he was originally raised at the Jedi temple on Coruscant and was hidden from the dangers of Order 66 and the rise of the Empire. He also suppressed his powers so he wouldn’t attract too much attention. Tano also mentioned that there’s a dark period in his memory that he can’t access for some reason. So it’s time to get theory-crafting once again – who wiped Grogu’s memory? Will Ahsoka make future appearances in the Star Wars universe after The Mandalorian? Only time will tell.
