A concept design gives Robert Pattinson the iconic white eyes in the Dark Knight’s cowl for The Batman.
While The Batman seems to be taking a grounded, dark approach to the mythos of the Caped Crusader, a concept design for the hero shows off Robert Pattinson wearing a cowl featuring those white eyes that fans have been familiar with for decades in the comics. The film is clearly taking its own unique approach to the characters living in Gotham City but it’s hard to deny that leaning into the comic accurate look for the Dark Knight really suits Pattinson’s moody Bruce Wayne.
The design comes from Datrintiart on Instagram, and shows off a few different versions of how the hero’s cowl could change in the film. In the caption, the artist explained that the ears fall out a little at the sides, similar to how he looked in the early years after his arrival in Detective Comics #27. Since the first trailer for Robert Pattinson’s The Batman showed off the low-fi Bat-Cave setup, it wouldn’t be surprising if we see Bruce getting hands on with creating his costume. The plot of The Batman is being kept a closely guarded secret, but we know the film will follow Robert Pattinson as a younger Bruce Wayne, chronicling Batman during his second year as Gotham City’s Dark Knight. The Batman will also show off the hero using his skills as a detective more than what we’ve seen before in previous versions of the character. It is also expected to be the first installment in a new trilogy of films starring Pattinson.
Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, Robert Pattinson stars as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
