Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman 1984 is now set to arrive in theaters and on HBO Max at no extra cost for subscribers on Christmas Day.
Wonder Woman 1984 has faced a series of release date delays since it was originally scheduled for December 13, 2019. The highly anticipated sequel starring Gal Gadot has been pushed up, moved back, and put on hold due in large part because of COVID-19. Warner Bros. and Patty Jenkins have remained committed to a theatrical release date, but it now looks like we will get the best of both worlds in the midst of the streaming wars.
Warner Bros. notably released Christopher Nolan’s Tenet in theaters during the COVID-19 pandemic, but despite being happy with the film’s box office results, the studio will now be releasing Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman 1984 in theaters that are still open and on HBO Max on Christmas Day. Full details on the Wonder Woman 1984 plot are being kept under wraps, but the film is said to follow Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince as she comes into conflict with a formidable new adversary named Cheetah and businessman Maxwell Lord. Wonder Woman was last seen in Zack Snyder’s DC superhero team-up movie Justice League.
Directed by Patty Jenkins from a script she co-wrote with David Callaham and a treatment she developed with Geoff Johns, the film stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, Natasha Rothwell, Ravi Patel, Gabriella Wilde, Connie Nielson, and Robin Wright.
