Zack Snyder The Dark Knight Returns

Zack Snyder The Dark Knight ReturnsZack Snyder confessed how much he loved The Dark Knight Returns story and explained that directing a live-action version is a dream.

Director Zack Snyder revealed that he loves The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller and Klaus Janson so much that he dreams of directing a live-action adaptation of the classic graphic novel. It’s a comment that likely won’t surprise many fans of the DC Extended Universe. Especially since Batman v Superman clearly leaned into the theme of a grizzled, older Batman as well as pitting the two heroes against each other – much like in the book.

Zack Snyder appeared on The Nerd Queens’ League of Mayhem live-stream in a lengthy conversation about his work as well much discussion about his version of Justice League. He even revealed what he’d like to do with a Justice League sequel as well as opening about wanting Carla Gugino as Catwoman. But he also discussed some critical tweets from fans who suggested he should stop reading The Dark Knight Returns. He explained that he’s obsessed with the story and that he dreams of helming a film featuring a crusty old Batman. Take a look below.

“I saw a tweet recently like ‘Snyder needs to stop reading Dark Knight Returns, he needs to read another Batman comic.’ I almost tweeted back. I’m sure Jay [Oliva] replied like ‘there aren’t any others!’ I’m so obsessed with that comic. I’ve always thought that maybe one day down the road as a one-off, just as a crusty old Batman, we’d just do it. It’s a dream I have.”

Should Zack Snyder get the chance to direct a live-action version of The Dark Knight Returns? Would you like to see Ben Affleck come back to the role? Who else would you like to cast? Sound-off in the comments below!

Here is the official synopsis for Zack Snyder’s Justice League:

Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Directed by Zack Snyder, Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, Jason Momoa, Ray Fisher, Jeremy Irons, Diane Lane, Connie Nielsen, J. K. Simmons, and Ciarán Hinds.
