Darth Maul notably made a return to Star Wars in the critical acclaimed Clone Wars animated series after his fate in The Phantom Menace. Darth Maul’s character development in the animated Star Wars material has made him one of the most beloved villains in the franchise. As it turns out, Geroge Lucas even had planned on using the former Sith apprentice in his sequel trilogy.
In the upcoming Star Wars Archives: 1999-2005, more details on George Lucas’ plans for Episodes VII-IX were revealed. While some details echo what we eventually got with the sequel trilogy, Lucas planned on Darth Maul having as a presence with Darth Talon from Legends as his apprentice.
