The Summer Shacket Just Got a Winter Update, and It’s So Good

I don’t know about you, but my denim shacket became a serious wardrobe hero over the course of summer 2020. It went with everything from midi dresses to jeans and a white tee, and it became my go-to layering piece on August evenings. Now that winter has descended, I’ll be packing away my trusty shacket and searching for a cold-weather alternative. Thankfully, the borg jacket has answered my prayers.
The borg, or shearling, jacket is hardly new to the style scene, but I noticed that there was a particular iteration that was proliferating on Instagram this season. Coming in a boxy, shirt-like fit, this outwear piece bears a striking resemblance to my summer shacket, except with a definitively wintery spin. For me, it ticked all the boxes. Some styles come in thinner fabrics which look more like fleeces and are perfect for layering under coats, but there are also plenty of chunkier buys which will look fab by themselves with jeans. At the top of my wish list is Vince’s faux shearling jacket in cream, which I would pair with a white roll-neck, straight-leg jeans, and gold hoops. I also have a soft spot for khaki colourways, as seen in Arket’s pile shirt, which is a great shade for those who want an alternative to beige or black.
