Square Enix has reportedly lost more than $63 million on Marvel’s Avengers game after selling roughly 3 million copies.
The Avengers game was in development by Square Enix years before they finally showed off gameplay at E3 back in 2019. Marvel’s Avengers was eventually released in September after facing delay. The game received lackluster buzz but will continue to see DLC in the coming months, which will include the addition of Spider-Man, Hawkeye, Black Panther, and others.
On Twitter, David Gibson has shared that Square Enix reported their losses for their games recently. While Square Enix wouldn’t share how much they lost from Marvel’s Avengers, it’s estimated that the game has lost the studio over $63 million since the developer revealed that volumes were only 60% of the plan.
Marvel Avengers- it looks like the total cost of the game is closer to $170m-$190m given they only expenses 70% of cost in the qtr plus marketing costs. Why someone didn’t say stop post the multiplayer beta will remain a mystery . Square are adamant they can make a recovery ….
