Snake Eyes star Henry Golding discusses the cultural detail being included in the upcoming film which reboots the GI Joe franchise.
Although it’ll be some time before we see Snake Eyes, Henry Golding is confident that fans will be thrilled with the direction of the film’s story. The new film will reboot the GI Joe cinematic franchise, and from Golding’s previous comments the action will be like nothing fans have seen before, explaining that he sustained a number of injuries from the stunts he worked on. Paramount is clearly impressed with the GI Joe project, since the studio has already greenlit a follow-up adventure.
But when speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Snake Eyes star Henry Golding noted that director Robert Schwentke was careful with the cultural detail in the GI Joe reboot. The star teased a little of what to expect, and explained that the production filmed in some “amazing” Japanese locations, which he clearly felt very grateful for. Take a look below.
“Robert is a huge Japanese cinephile, everything from [Akira] Kurosawa to just the phenomenal Spaghetti Westerns of samurai movies. He is so hooked into that history and we see some of those scenes. With some of the fight scenes there are some chimbara sequences (Japanese sword-fighting). A lot of attention to cultural detail was put into this movie. There are not a lot of movies that are allowed to film in Japan and we went to some amazing, amazing places. The authenticity is there.”
