‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Writer Wants Sequel To ’90s Trilogy

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesThe original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie writer has revealed that he would love to make another sequel to the beloved trilogy from the ’90s.

Paramount is currently rebooting the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise once again as an animated feature with Seth Rogan on board to produce. The latest reboot comes after the studio tried to revitalize the turtles the first time around with two live-action films produced by Michael Bay. In the films under Bay, the turtles were brought to life via performance capture, but the writer of the original film would like to see the heroes in a half-shell return to their practical roots.

Various franchises over the years like Halloween have successfully added sequels to the original film after years of other sequels and reboots. Bobby Herbeck, co-writer of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, shared with ComicBook.com that he would like to see something similar happen with the turtles:

“Yes. The answer is yes. We’re trying to make that happen. We want to do a reboot. We got our fans come to us on Instagram, they’re, ‘Why don’t you guys do a reboot of the first movie?’ We’d love to do it. The truth is, this property, it’s established now after 30 years as a part of our modern pop culture, it’s not going away. It’s only going to continue to grow. I do wish that we could go back. I mean, we’ve talked to Steve Barron about this, and Brian Henson, and if there were an opportunity, if one of the studios saw fit, I think we could go back and reboot it like it was….Imagine if Brian Henson had access to the technology he does today to make these costumes and all that. I think it would be amazing. A reboot like that I think would really get people’s juices flowing.”

The rat was a former pet of a ninja master and therefore uses his skills to train the four turtles in martial arts. They befriend a local journalist and with her help attempt to find the group behind a crime wave in New York City.

Directed by Steve Barron with a script from Todd W. Langen and Bobby Herbeck, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stars
