NASA has commented (PDF) to a petition by a US firm to construct a megaconstellation of satellites at an altitude of 720km over the planet’s surface, citing concerns regarding crashes. This seems to be the very first time that NASA has openly commented about this kind of application for exchange access, which is coming before the Federal Communications Commission.
“NASA submits this correspondence through the public comment period for the function of supplying a much better understanding of NASA’s issues concerning its resources on-orbit, to further mitigate the dangers of crashes to the mutual advantage of those concerned,” composed Samantha Fonder, an engineer for the area agency.
At issue are strategies set forth from AST & Science, that plans to construct a constellation of over 240 big satellites, basically deploying”mobile towers” in distance to offer 4G and potentially 5G broadband link directly to mobile phones on Earth. The organization, located in Midland, Texas, predicts its own constellation”SpaceMobile” and has recently increased an estimated $120 million.
