The Mandalorian season 2 premiere brought back a legendary Star Wars character, but not in the way many fans expected.
WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE MANDALORIAN SEASON 2.
There’s been plenty of rumors flying around over the last few months over which characters may or may not be returning to the Star Wars universe in The Mandalorian season two, but the premiere episode just brought back a truly iconic character. The character’s arrival comes soon after Disney Plus seemingly confirmed Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano in season two, while Rahul Kohli recently addressed the theory that he’s playing Ezra Bridger.
Obviously, spoilers ahead for the first episode of The Mandalorian season 2. When Din Djarin goes looking for other Mandalorians, his search takes him to Mos Pelgo – an old mining town protected by Marshal Cobb Vance (Timothy Olyphant) who wears Boba Fett’s old armor. Vance explains that he bought the Beskar armor from Jawas that had scavenged it from the desert before agreeing to give Djarin the armor if he helps him kill a hulking Krayt Dragon that’s terrorizing the town. After teaming up with Tusken Raiders(!) they manage to take the giant Dune-style sandworm down.
But as Din and Baby Yoda speed back to the Razor Crest, a mysterious bald figure watches from the distance before turning around and revealing Temuera Morrison. The actor played Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones, as well as voicing many clones in the films as well as animation. The obvious suggestion here is that Boba Fett survived being eaten by the Sarlacc Pit (as the Star Wars comics revealed in A Barve Like That: The Tale of Boba Fett). It’ll be interesting to see how Morrison’s role affects the journey to reunite Baby Yoda with his people.
