These Marvel and DC Comics movie Star all lied about their involvement in these films.
Back in September, the news broke that actress Tatiana Maslany, best known for starring in sci fi series “Orphan Black,” landed the lead role in Marvel Studios upcoming Disney Plus series “She-Hulk.” However, Maslany recently denied the news of her casting to the Sudbury Star and said, “That actually isn’t a real thing and it’s like a press release that’s gotten out of hand. It’s totally not — I’ve been connected to these things in the past and press has gotten onto it, but it’s not actually a thing, unfortunately.”
Even though Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo tweeted “Welcome to the family cuz” and She-Hulk head writer Jessica Gao tweeted the news as well, not to mention not one, but all four hollywood trade newspapers, Deadline, Variety, the Hollywood Reporter, and TheWrap EACH independently confirmed and verified the news of Maslany’s casting, what gives?
Maslany is obviously lying, here is the reason why, or actually three letters as to why. N…D…A…otherwise known as the Non Disclosure Agreement. Marvel Studios’s NDA is considered to be the strictest NDA in the film business, and it contractually prohibits actors from discussing the casting, let alone confirming it with news outlets. What happens if actors break the NDA? There are penalties, however the biggest penalty is potentially losing the role.
In Maslany’s case, her deal hasn’t technically closed because for a major lead role like hers, it would take weeks for her deal to close, so instead of jeopardizing her big opportunity with Marvel, Maslany is going to play along, tell a little white lie to whoever asks her, and follow the rules of Marvel’s NDA.
Maslany isn’t the first actor to lie about being cast in a superhero project, and she certainly won’t be the last, so let’s break down and take a look at other actors who have lied about being in Marvel and DC projects in the video below.
