Longtime X-Men producer and Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg is moving over to the Battlestar Galactica franchise to write and produce a film for Universal.
Universal is looking to bring Battlestar Galactica back in a big way. A third reboot of the beloved sci-fi series is in the works for NBC with Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail on board as an executive producer, but Universal isn’t stopping there. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Universal also has plans to bring Battlestar Galactica to the big screen with the studio tapping Simon Kinberg as the writer and producer of the project.
Simon Kinberg was heavily involved with the X-Men franchise (before Marvel Studios regained control of the mutants) and recently took a stab at directorial duties with Dark Phoenix and The 355. Kinberg also had a hand with another iconic space franchise in Star Wars Rebels as an executive producer. In regards to the Battlestar Galactica movie, the veteran X-Men producer said the following in a released statement:
“Battlestar Galactica is one of the holy grails in science fiction, and I couldn’t be more excited about bringing something new to the franchise, while honoring what’s made it so iconic and enduring. I’m so grateful that Dylan and my partners at Universal have trusted me with this incredible universe.”
