The Boys star Nathan Mitchell revealed what the inspiration was for Black Noir’s weakness during the second season of the Amazon Prime show.
We finally got to see more from Black Noir in The Boys season two, although the series also revealed that the mysterious hero has a surprising weakness during a fight with Queen Maeve in Vought Tower. While he was close to killing Starlight, Maeve used an Almond Joy to incapacitate Black Noir thanks to his nut allergy. And in a recent interview with ComicBook.com, the actor behind the hero, Nathan Mitchell, revealed where the allergy idea came from.
“”Yeah. Yeah. That’s actually a personal allergy of mine. I was talking to Karl one day and he was like, ‘Oh, that’s kind of interesting. I’m going to pitch that to Eric.’ And that’s kind of how it came about. Yeah, there was a kick, you could say, and it was pretty art imitates life in that way.”
Nathan Mitchell made a particularly good point in the interview by pointing out allergies aren’t something we’ve seen pop up in superhero movies before. He explained that by using something millions of people deal with in the story, it helps bring more relatability to it. Although Mitchell did note that it was a little edgy for him, but he was glad that The Boys could use it as a way of further developing Black Noir’s character.
“I think it’s important because allergies affect a great deal of people, and it’s not something that we have really seen in a superhero story before, so that level of relatability and connection to something that everybody goes through, but we haven’t seen, is really important. I found it fun, found it a little edgy for me personally, but it was a great time and I’m happy Noir has that kryptonite.”
