The latest photos from the Chicago set of Matt Reeves’ The Batman tease the presence of legendary DC villains Mr. Freeze and Scarecrow.
Although Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader will definitely take on the Riddler when The Batman finally arrives in 2022, it seems a few other notable villains could already exist in the new version of Gotham City. The new images come soon after a surprising shot revealed Superman exists in the Matt Reeves world, and the director is clearly filling the world of The Batman with references to a wider DC universe. It looks like the film could set the stage for the arrival of Mr. Freeze and Scarecrow at some point in the future.
The first photo comes from Jake Hamilton on Twitter, who also suggested The Flash’s logo is on a torn poster in the Chicago set. However the art hides an Easter egg for Mr. Freeze in plain sight. Fans of Batman: The Animated Series might remember GothCorp as the company Victor Fries was employed by before the tragic death of his wife, which pushed him over the edge and created his villainous persona Mr. Freeze. The second reference comes from ‘@thebatcentral’ on Twitter, as the account showed off another poster reading “Fear City” around a screaming man in a mask. It’s hard not to mention the word “fear” when discussing the Caped Crusader and thinking of Scarecrow, especially combined with the intense art on the poster. Take a look at the references to Scarecrow and Mr. Freeze below.

What do you make of the new Easter eggs spotted on The Batman set? Does this mean Mr. Freeze and Scarecrow exist in this universe? Sound-off in the comments below!
Plot details for The Batman are being kept under wraps, but we know that the project will revolve around Robert Pattinson as a younger Bruce Wayne, chronicling Batman during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector. The Batman will also feature the hero making use of his detective skills more than what we’ve seen before in previous iterations of the character. It is also expected to be the first installment to a new Batman trilogy with Pattinson.
Directed by Matt Reeves from a script he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, the film stars Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
The Batman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 4, 2022. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news regarding Robert Pattinson’s young Dark Knight and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more video content.
