Javicia Leslie is the Arrowverse’s next Batwoman and her fellow star Camrus Johnson called the role a blessing before noting how important the role is.
Arrowverse fans were shocked to learn that Ruby Rose had left Batwoman after starring in the lead role for just a single season, but with Javicia Leslie coming onboard as Ryan Wilder to step into her shoes, it’s a chance for The CW to offer better representation. Batwoman co-star Camrus Johnson spoke to Inverse about Leslie’s performance in the series and called the actress’ addition to the Arrowverse a “blessing.”
Camrus Johnson (who plays Luke Fox in The CW series) explained that Javicia Leslie is having the time of her life playing the latest superhero in the Arrowverse. He pointed out that having a Black female superhero leading her own series is incredibly important for audiences across the world. Johnson revealed that when the actress was filming a stunt she couldn’t stop smiling, which is refreshing to hear. Take a look at Leslie’s Batwoman co-star discussing the importance of her casting.
“Oh, she’s so awesome! I’m so, so excited to be working with her. I got to see her do a stunt and she broke into a huge smile before they even said cut. You could just tell that the little Black girl in her was like, ‘I cannot believe I’m Batwoman right now.’ I cannot wait for every other little Black girl in the world to be able to see her, to be able to see a Black female superhero in the Batsuit. It’s such a blessing to be in a show that can remind them that there are icons for them to look up to.”
