New details regarding George Lucas’ sequel trilogy treatments reveal the Star Wars creator also planned on killing Luke Skywalker in the second part before handing the franchise off to J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson.
Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi is always a heated topic among Star Wars fans for several reasons. One element of the film fans come to blows with is the depiction of Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker at the start as an old man who has given up on the ways of the Jedi. The Last Jedi also marks the death of Luke Skywalker, which also upset many Star Wars fans. This has led to speculation on what George Lucas’ original plans were for Luke Skywalker and the rest of the sequel trilogy before he walked away from the franchise.
Details from Pablo Hidalgo’s latest book, Star Wars: Fascinating Facts, shed some more light on what George Lucas had planned for the sequel trilogy. Thanks to some excerpts shared on Twitter, we now know Lucas also planned on killing Luke Skywalker in Episode VIII after being withdrawn on a Jedi temple and that Rey was originally envisioned as a 14-year-old girl.
