George Miller’s Mad Max prequel has found its Furiosa in The New Mutants star Anya Taylor-Joy.
Warner Bros. has announced that Anya Taylor-Joy (The New Mutants, Split) has signed on to star in Furiosa, a Mad Max: Fury Road prequel focusing on the character played by Charlize Theron. George Miller is directing Furiosa from a script he co-wrote with Nick Lathouris, who also worked on Fury Road.
Chris Hemsworth (Avengers, Extraction) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman, Watchmen) are set to co-star opposite Anya Taylor-Joy. Details regarding their roles are being kept under lock and key, with Warner Bros. teasing that the feature explores the origins of Furiosa before her encounter with Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) in Fury Road.
George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road is widely regarded as one of the best action films of its decade. The film grossed $375 million at the worldwide box office and was nominated for ten Academy Awards, winning six.
