Christian Nodal nabs his third straight No. 1 on the Regional Mexican Albums chart as a deluxe reissue of his Ayayay! album pushed the set 15-1 on the Sept. 26 survey. The original album was released on May 29. The deluxe version adds new tracks, and all versions combine together for tracking and charting purposes.
“(The deluxe version of) Ayayay! is a production designed for all people in love, in pain and for those who want to party,” Nodal tells Billboard. “’Ayayay!’ is a Mexican cry tailored to a person’s feeling. One can shout ‘ayayay!’ and it can be interpreted based on one’s mood, therefore this album is tailored to all those hearts searching for comfort or a way to get those feelings of love and heartbreak or party off their chests.”
Ayayay! tops the chart with 5,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Sept. 17 according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, mostly stemming from streaming activity. The 13-track set generated 7.5 million on-demand streams in its first week.
Ayayay! was initially released on May 29, and debuted and then-peaked at No. 4 on the June 13-dated list. The deluxe edition was released Sept. 11 also via Fonovisa/UMLE.
“This album was originally intended to be released in its entirety,” Nodal adds. “Due to the pandemic, my team and I decided to give the world half of the album so that these difficult moments would be more bearable with good music.”
Both versions of the set were preceded by three songs on Hot Latin Songs, which blends airplay, digital sales and streaming data: “Se Me Olvidó (No. 16 peak, May 9-dated list) and “Aquí Abajo” and “Nace Un Borracho,” both which peak at No. 18 and arrive at No. 46, respectively, on the current tally.
Nodal first secured a No. 1 on Regional Mexican Albums with his album debut Me Dejé Llevar, the 73-week ruler which continues in the list’s top 10 in its 160th frame. The record maintains its runner-up slot with the second-most weeks at No. 1, standing behind Selena’s Amor Prohibido which led for 97 weeks.
Over on the Top Latin Albums, Ayayay! earns Nodal’s his third consecutive top 10, rocketing up the chart with a 50-9 sprint.
