With less than a week to go before its release, Mariah Carey gave fans a sneak listen to the audiobook version of her upcoming memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey (Sept. 29), on Tuesday (Sept. 22) night. The Audible book excerpt finds Carey saying, “I never spoke of it, I stuffed it inside. I had to find a way to survive…”
The brief audio book snippet then makes way for some vintage footage of the singer from her childhood and early career days as the weeper ballad “Looking In” from Carey’s fifth album, 1995’s Daydream, plays in the background.
The preview landed hard with superfan Kelly Clarkson, who retweeted the post, adding, “The amount of times I listened to this song as a kid is incredible. Still holds up. What a songwriter @MariahCarey is! Obviously an insanely talented singer, but the writer in her…. just wow. People forget she wrote ALL OF THOSE SONGS y’all.”
Carey has been teasing out her anticipated memoir for weeks, including dropping a few chapter titles on Tuesday, which briefly set off a panic in the Lambily when she tweeted the phrase “THANKSGIVING IS CANCELLED.” After some freak outs, Carey apologized and explained that it was simply the name of a chapter, not a warning that the coronavirus has pre-cancelled turkey day.
