This Leather Jacket Is So Good, I Mistook it For a Designer Buy

Whistles knows a thing or two about elevated yet accessible fashion. As one of the longest standing high-street brands (46 years to date), it has managed to establish itself as a go-to for stylish wardrobe staples that feel a little more premium than your average high-street buy. And this was long before the likes of Arket and COS. Well, this week, I stumbled across a dreamy jacket that proves Whistles’ enduring appeal remains as strong as ever.

With a bonded shearling collar, boxy leather fit and zip-up fastening, I was instantly drawn to the jacket’s premium aesthetic. Then, when it came to seeing it IRL, my suspicions were confirmed—it truly rivalled many of the designer leather jackets I have tried on in the past. For reference, I’m wearing a small here (I’m a UK 8-10) and I found the fit just the right amount of oversized. Yes, I acknowledge that £449 is not what you would consider ‘affordable’, but if you’re looking for a real leather and shearling jacket, prices do tend to tip into the hundreds, and most designer iterations will be £1,000 plus. But if you need a little more persuading, I styled the jacket three different ways to display its versatility. Scroll down to see my outfits, plus shop the jacket itself.

I’ve used the Whistles jacket here to elevate a classic Breton knit and baggy jeans pairing. Ideal for the weekend.

For a more polished finish, try throwing the jacket over a printed knit vest and pair of black trousers.

Bring out the retro undertones with mid-blue denim dunagrees, a white shirt and knotted neckerchief.
