‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Becomes First Phase 4 MCU Film To Secure China Release

Spider-Man: No Way Home has officially secured a release in China, making it the first film in the MCU’s Phase 4 to do so.

Sony released a brand new poster for Spider-Man: No Way Home yesterday, including one for the Chinese market. No formal release date for the Marvel Cinematic Universe film has been set, though it wouldn’t be surprising if the Middle Kingdom gets the film the same day as North American fans. Spider-Man: No Way Home will be the first Phase 4 MCU film to have passed China’s rigorous censorship and screening approvals.

Marvel Studios’ latest Eternals failed to secure a release in China due to comments critical about the government made by director Chloe Zhao nearly a decade ago. Black Widow and Shang-Chi also failed to secure a release date in one of the world’s most profitable markets. With Spider-Man: No Way Home set to debut in China, it’s more than likely that the MCU threequel will be the first film in 2021 to break a billion dollars. The last film to hit that milestone was 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is set to debut in the country, though no official release date has been announced for the Tom Hardy sequel. It’s hard not to imagine the Venom sequel hitting cinemas in China sooner than later, as it directly appears to lead into Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Here is the synopsis for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home:

“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is umasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.”

Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Alfred Molina.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will hit theaters on December 17, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the film, as well as what’s going on in Marvel Studios’ Multiverse, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
