‘The Suicide Squad’ Director Shares Early BTS Look At Peter Capaldi’s The Thinker

The Suicide Squad director James Gunn has shared an early behind-the-scenes image from Peter Capaldi’s screen test as The Thinker.

One of the most memorable characters to come out of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad was Peter Capaldi’s hilarious and sinister The Thinker. Leading Project Starfish, Capaldi’s character made a great foil to Task Force X, who were tasked to destroy all traces of The Thinker’s literal pet project. While his attitude didn’t win him any friends, The Thinker’s mad genius look made him a memorable standout in a roster of weird-looking characters.

The Thinker’s head sports numerous bulbs and wires that don’t go unnoticed and make it hard to blend into a crowd. Now, The Suicide Squad director James Gunn has shared an early behind-the-scenes photo of the character taken during Peter Capaldi’s screen test.

First screen test of #PeterCapaldi as #TheThinker, Gaius Grieves. The careful observer will notice that the wires & the size & shape of some of Thinker’s “upgrades” are different from our final version in #TheSuicideSquad. @SuicideSquadWB pic.twitter.com/6cJXqiUp1F

James Gunn notes that some of the trinkets and wires on Peter Capaldi’s head as seen in the photo above are different than the ones seen in the final product. Capaldi’s The Thinker ultimately perished at the hands of Starro, making his death one of the most satisfying ones seen in the film.

Here is the synopsis for The Suicide Squad:

Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, Flula Borg, Mayling Ng, Tinashe Kajese, Steve Agee, Jennifer Holland, Alice Braga, Juan Diego Botto, Joaquin Cosio, Storm Reid, and Taika Waititi.

The Suicide Squad is now available on BluRay, 4K, DVD, and Digital Download. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of James Gunn’s pocket of the DC Universe and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
