‘The Batman’ Co-Writer Joins Keanu Reeves’ Live-Action ‘BRZRKR’ Film

The Batman co-writer Mattson Tomlin is set to write Keanu Reeves’ live-acton BRZRKR film for Netflix.

Keanu Reeves debuted his very own comic book earlier this year titled BRZRKR, named after the Norse mythological warriors who would fight in trances. The limited issue series was published through Boom! Studios and already has a series of Netflix projects set up. For one, the limited issue series will be getting an animated follow-up in the near future. However, Netflix is also crafting a live-action take on the comic alongside Keanu Reeves.

In a recent interview with Collider, Keanu Reeves expressed his excitement over working with Netflix to expand the BRZRKR franchise in a unique, expansive way. During the chat, Reeves revealed that The Batman co-writer Mattson Tomlin will be penning the live-action film’s script.

“We’re working with Netflix who have been very cool. They’re going to let us do an R-rated story which is cool. My ambition or hope is not to do a filmed version of the comic book so that they’ll have things in common, definitely the main character and his kind of rule set, but that we can take it to other places as well. We’re talking to a couple of different animation companies and trying to figure that out. And, again, for me I’m hoping to be inspired and influenced…there are some rules to the story, but I also want other creators to do their version of it. So I’m hoping to do a different version of a metaverse where in the sense having different storytellers with one set of rules but go other places with it. We’re working on trying to set up a company with the animation and we’ve hired a writer for the film Mattson Tomlin. He’s been cool and just starting to put things together. That’s where we’re at.”

Details are extremely slim on the BRZRKR film as it looks like the script is in its early days. It’s interesting how Reeves isn’t interested in simply adapting the comic but rather expanding on the rules set up in the written medium. With The Batman now wrapped up, Tomlin has all the time he needs to craft Keanu Reeves’ vision for his fantasy action-adventure series.

The plot of The Batman is being kept under lock and key, but we know the film will follow Robert Pattinson as a younger version of Bruce Wayne, chronicling Batman during his second year as the Dark Knight of Gotham City. The film will also show off the hero using his skills as a detective more than what we’ve seen before in previous versions of the hero. It is also expected to be the first installment in a new trilogy of films with Pattinson.

Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

The Batman will hit theaters on March 4, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the upcoming film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
