Marvel’s ‘Eternals’ May Be Delayed If ‘Shang-Chi and The Legend Of The Ten Rings’ Underperforms

Marvel’s upcoming film Eternals may reportedly be delayed if Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings underperforms at the box office.

For a moment it almost seemed like the movie world was getting back to normal. While box office returns had hadn’t been nearly as high as they had been before the pandemic, early hits like Godzilla vs. Kong seemed to indicate that audiences were ready to go back to the movies. Unfortunate the box office performance of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow seemed to put an end to any of these hopes.

While Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow wasn’t a flop, it was one of the lowest-grossing Marvel Cinematic Universe films by a wide margin. While the film had a solid opening, it would only go on to gross just under $400M worldwide, making it the third-lowest grossing MCU film. Johansson’s response to this performance was to blame it on the film’s simultaneous release to theaters and Disney Plus and sue Disney over it.

Regardless of how the lawsuit turns out and what actually caused Black Widow to underperform, Disney is clearly concerned about the box office returns of its upcoming Marvel installments. Despite this, Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings is holding fast to its September 3rd release date. This may change with future MCU installments depending on how the film performs.

Early today a report was released by Vulture that stated that Tom Hardy’s upcoming film, Venom: Let There Be Carnage was going to be delayed until early 2022. While nothing was set in stone, Marvel’s upcoming film Eternals could also be seeing a delay. The delay is apparently dependent on how well Shang-Chi performers at the box office in September.

Chloé Zhao is directing Eternals from a script written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Angelina Jolie as Thena, and Barry Keoghan as Druig.

Eternals is set to hit theaters on November 5, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the releases of Shang-Chi and Eternals and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
