‘Loki’: Episode 4 End Credits Scene Shows Off A Mind-Blowing Twist

The end credits scene from the fourth episode of Loki might have just shown off a mind-blowing twist.

THE FOLLOWING CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS FOR LOKI.

While episode three’s isolated nature may have been a turn-off for some fans, episode four of Marvel Studios’ Loki ups the ante by quite a bit. One of the show’s most action-packed and emotional episodes, the fourth episode primarily focused on Loki falling in love with Sylvie and attempting to express his feelings. Of course, the Time-Variant Authority botched those plans, killing Tom Hiddleston’s version of the character as the episode began to wrap up.

Nuked from the Sacred Timeline, it was presumed that Loki would stay dead and that Sylvie would take over as the series’ main protagonist, which would be quite a daring move. However, if you stayed for the end-credits scene, you’ll know that Hiddleston’s version of the character is still very much alive and he’s got some new friends. Loki wakes up in a dreary, rubble-filled city and wonders if he’s dead and that he’s landed in hell. Richard E. Grant’s voice looms forward, telling Hiddleston’s character that he’ll die if he doesn’t join them.

As he gets up, Loki stands before three figures: Richard E. Grant, who is dressed in classic Loki garbs, a young Loki, and another variation of the character that appears to be holding a modified Mjolnir. Because Loki isn’t dead, it confirms that the TVA isn’t able to completely erase people from timelines but rather send them to purgatory to live out the rest of their days. Of course, the TVA could still have permanent deletion up their sleeves but Loki clearly wasn’t a threat to warrant it.
