‘Black Widow’: Kevin Feige On More Potential MCU Prequel Films

Kevin Feige discussed the possibility of other MCU films being prequels like Black Widow.

Marvel Studios’ Black Widow is unique in the sense that it’s the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that’s a direct prequel. While films like Captain America: The First Avenger have taken place before the main events of the MCU, the Kevin Feige-produced Black Widow is the first to directly explore a character’s past when it’s known how their story ends. It’s an interesting tool to beef up the MCU’s lore, while also giving more context to the hero’s origins. Prequel films and television series in the MCU would certainly be an exciting idea. Fans have been clamoring to see what Bruce Banner was up to between The Incredible Hulk and Avengers. Other ideas that have popped up over recent years also include Bucky’s time as the brainwashed Winter Soldier or Thanos’ early days on Titan.

During the virtual press conference for the Scarlet Johannson-led film, MCU architect Kevin Feige was asked if the franchise would see more prequel films like Black Widow in the future.

“Well, certainly this film and this story is a particular case for Natasha, but the notion of exploring the past, present, and future of the MCU is certainly in the cards for all of our characters. This particular story, this particular cast, is very personal, very specific, to Natasha.”
