Regina King is continuing her path as a director after getting an Oscar nomination for One Night in Miami. She is now set to direct a film adaptation of Bitter Root for Legendary. The film will be based on the 2019 Eisner nominated comic book from David F. Walker, Sanford Greene, and Chuck Brown. Black Panther‘s Ryan Coogler is also attached to the project as a producer under Proximity Media.

Of course, this isn’t Regina King’s first foray into the comic book genre after starring in Watchmen. The actress turned director was also a name that recently floated around for Marvel Studios’ Blade and the upcoming Superman reboot from JJ Abrams. For now, King turns her attention to Bitter Root, and this is what Legendary revealed about the film:

“For generations, the Sangeryes have hunted and cured those infected by a supernatural force that feeds off of prejudice and transforms humans into monsters. But with most of the family gone, the remaining Sangeryes disagree over saving or killing the monsters.”
