Joaquin Phoenix Joker TIFF Todd Phillips Marvel Regal Cinemas Avengers Infinity War DC BAFTA Oscars Warner Bros.Warner Bros. is still reportedly working on a sequel to the hit Joker standalone film starring Joaquin Phoenix.

Joker is one of the most successful DC movies of all time after earning a billion dollars at the box office and winning several Oscars, including Beat Actor for Joaquin Phoenix. It feels almost inevitable that Warner Bros. would want to develop a sequel, and past reports have suggested as much. However, Todd Phillips has also refuted that work was being done on a sequel.

A recent report from The Hollywood Reporter detailing the search for a Black Superman also mentioned that the upcoming film will take place outside of the DC Extended Universe like Matt Reeves’ The Batman, Joker, and its sequel that is still apparently in the works. Nothing else is known about this sequel to Joker, but it’s safe to assume Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix would return if it happens.

Here is the official synopsis for Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker:

Director Todd Phillips “Joker” centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips’ exploration of Arthur Fleck, who is indelibly portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night…but finds the joke always seems to be on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.

Directed by Todd Phillips from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, the film stars Joaquin Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham.

Joker is available on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news surrounding the planned sequel, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more video content in the future!
