Jeffrey Wright The Batman Gotham HBO Max Commissioner James Gordon Matt ReevesGotham Central creator Ed Brubaker recently stated The Batman prequel series coming to HBO Max will be about Jeffrey Wright’s James Gordon.

The Batman wrapped up filming last month, and it’s expected production will now start soon on the upcoming Gotham PD series announced last summer. When The Batman wrapped, Jeffrey Wright teased more to come and he might’ve been referring to the Gotham PD series.

At DC FanDome, The Batman director Matt Reeves revealed the Gotham PD series will take place a year before the events of the first film and follow corrupt cops. According to Gotham Central creator Ed Brubaker, the series shared on Fatman Beyond the HBO Max series will actually be about Jeffrey Wright’s James Gordon:

“I was like ‘maybe they’re really going to make Gotham Central this time,’ and so I reached out to a producer who works for Matt Reeves and he says, ‘no, that’s not really Gotham Central. They’re making sure that they don’t call it Gotham Central and it’s more of a spinoff from the movie. It’s like the James Gordon show.”

The plot of The Batman is being kept under wraps, but we know the film will follow Robert Pattinson as a younger version of Bruce Wayne, chronicling Batman during his second year as the Dark Knight of Gotham City. The film will also show off the hero using his skills as a detective more than what we’ve seen before in previous versions of the hero. It is also expected to be the first installment in a new trilogy of films with Pattinson.

Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

The Batman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 4, 2022. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Gotham PD, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more video content.
