Apple will start selling and building a vehicle over the next four decades. Based on Reuters, the automobile may (or might not) utilize self-driving technologies manufactured by Apple, and it might (or may not) require a”breakthrough” battery layout that will be more economical and provide wider range than present technology.
Reuters claims that Apple is focusing on lithium ion phosphate (LFP) battery chemistry, that can be less costly than battery cells which use nickel manganese cobalt chemistry. In July of the year, Tesla declared it’d change to the particular chemistry for Chinese-built Tesla Model 3s at the end of 2020.
Reuters also states that Apple’s battery layout”bulks up both the cells from the battery and frees up space within the battery package by removing components and modules that carry battery”
