Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has been ordered to instantly expand email delivery with additional trips and after deliveries following the U.S. Postal Service didn’t enhance performance under a week ahead of the election.
U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan in Washington late Tuesday awarded an emergency petition to apply and monitor compliance with a previous injunction he arranged. The judgment is a victory for civil rights teams along with Democratic-led countries that alleged in many lawsuits which the fluctuations had been sabotaging the election into the advantage of President Donald Trump.
“USPS employees are educated to do overdue and additional trips to the highest extent required to raise two-step mail deliveries, especially for election email,” Sullivan explained. “To be more clear, late and additional trips must be achieved to the exact same or higher level than they had been performed before July 2020 when doing this would raise on-time mail deliveries”
On-time delivery of First Class mail fell into 69.8percent on Tuesday, {} 6 percent points from prior days, the USPS stated in a court filing Wednesday.

Connolly, the Democratic chairman of the Subcommittee on Government Operations, stated in an emailed statement. “With severe delays in functionality continuing, especially in some metropolitan areas, I recommend any American who hasn’t voted to do this in person or by providing their ballot to correctly specified election offices or drop boxes”
Sullivan gave DeJoy before Thursday to disperse advice to USPS leadership throughout the nation using state-specific ballot-receipt deadlines and remind them about their requirement to”make sure that finished ballots get to the right election official from the nation’s deadline”
Sullivan ordered DeJoy to trouble some one-page note telling supervisors to rescind July advice restricting using late and additional delivery excursions. The USPS has contended that it had been complying with the previous injunction and {} demonstrating a sharp fall in the usage of overtime and late night excursions had nothing more to do with elections email. The judge stated he wishes to be upgraded daily from the USPS on its own usage of late night trips.
